Having been in real estate for most of my adult life, I have a lot of folks approach me asking what it is like to be a Realtor®. Although the beauty of the job is that there is no monotonous routine, each day is an adventure, I can give a basic breakdown of what my basic day entails.
4:30 AM Yep, I wake up every morning at 4:30. Why? After 30 years of living with myself, I find that my peak creativity and productivity hours are between 5 and 11. I put a pot of coffee on, wash up the dishes in the sink from the night before and do a little bit of journaling to see where I am mentally that day and set goals.
5:00 AM I hop online and take a Realtor® online module to get some new ideas for the business and stay on top of my game. Education is important!
5:30 AM Search for expireds and FSBO’s to reach out to that day. The market can’t survive without homes so I aim to shake a few people off the fence and enter the mainstream housing market.
6:00 AM Workout! On days I don’t work out, I find that I get agitated easily and no one likes an agitated Realtor®. My favorite thing to do is run while listening to books on tape but I do break it up every now and then with strength training and some cardio dancing. Oh, yes, I have the moves.
7:30 AM Shower and breakfast. In the very recent past, I would skip breakfast. Halfway through the day, I would find myself slurring speech and forgetting details (even insignificant ones). So now I make it a point to eat something before I leave the house.
9:30 AM In the office, I make my sphere calls to my past clients or reach out to them through social media or text. Usually around this time coffee #2 comes in.
10:30 AM Followup calls, prospecting, and writing notes to my sphere or as thank you’s to the folks who have sent me business or invited me to swing by their homes to check them out. Around this time, as well, Jackie comes in and she starts processing files and helping me farm neighborhoods.
12:00 PM Lunch! I usually brown bag it but I will take some time to go out with coworkers or use the time to network with vendors.
1:00 PM Appointments! The general misconception is that Realtors® only have to work on the weekends. You’d be amazed at how many people do their prime-time house hunting and prep work during the work week. Usually the hours from 1:00 PM to about 7:00 PM I’m showing houses, going to home inspections, making calls to go over reports, and meeting with sellers to prepare their houses to sell.
7:00 PM Dinner! Most days I will pop something in the crockpot before I leave for work, because the absolute worst thing after a long day at work is having to go grocery shopping and then make dinner. I pour myself a glass of wine, make a plate and pull up the TV tray and watch an episode of a show Tim and I binge together. Right now we’re on a Friends kick.
8:30 PM Bedtime. I am admittedly an old lady who has an 8:30 bedtime, and it is glorious! All the better to wake up at 4:30 the next morning and get it!
