With all the bustling around that the holiday season entails, you may have forgotten about your neighbors and you want to show them some appreciation. They are the ones that watch your house while you’re away, maybe cut the lawn a little bit more than the property line just to help you out. Knock on their door with just a little something to say Happy Holidays!
Of course, there are the Sugar Scrubs which go over very well and can be made in less than an hour. Seriously, my friends wanted to eat them.
Another Overcash family staple is our homemade Chex Mix. The basic recipe you can get on the back of the box but like the sugar scrubs, I tend to play it loose and the result is sooooo good. Make sure your neighbors aren’t allergic to nuts before delivering this treat. Make it even better by packaging it in a festive cookie tin!
Chex Mix Recipe
-3 cups wheat chex
-3 cups rice chex
-3 cups corn chex
-2 cups mixed nuts
-2 cups cashews if you’re a fan of cashews which I am
-2 cups pretzels, sticks or twisties
-2 cups of Cheerios
-2 sticks of butter (I prefer unsalted)
-1/2 Tbsp seasoned salt
-1 Tbsp. garlic powder
-1 Tbsp. onion powder
-4 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
-Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Put cereals in a roasting pan.
-Melt the butter then mix in the worcestershire, salt, and powders.
-Pour over the cereal mix and give it a good stir.
-Put in the oven and bake for 2 hours covered, taking it out to mix and shake every 30 minutes.
Need something that’s not edible? No big! Here’s a few more ideas:
- Gift wrap with a pair of scissors and some tape like this blogger
- How about a little something to make their house smell ah-mazing like this stove-top potpourri.
- Then there’s these awesome neighbor gift ideas that cost less than $1. Put a few together for a nice little basket.
That’s it for me. No post on Monday because it will be, well, Christmas and I will be spending it with my family. Have a very merry holiday and see you Wednesday!
