Let’s Get Crafty: Three Stocking-Stuffer Sugar Scrubs That Will Have You Salivating

Hey guys! With the holidays coming up, gifts are on the mind.  And if you’re short on cash and want a little extra stocking stuffer street cred or just want to make a small gifty for a friend, these sugar scrubs are the way to go.

  • They’re easy to make. I made all three in under 2 hours.
  • They’re easy to clean up. More on that later.
  • They smell amazing!
  • Whatever extra you make you can keep for a little something-something after doing the dishes.  Seriously, your skin will feel like silk. Yay alliteration!

If you ask Soap Cat, this sugar scrub is absolutely purrrrrrrr-fect!

Admittedly, I searched the web for different sugar scrub recipes and all of them had the about the same ingredients in common.  I just tweaked it for serving size.  I used an Apple Pie Spice recipe, a Gingerbread recipe, and a Pumpkin Pie Spice recipe.  The purpose of this is to give you the basics of what I did, since I did not use an actual stand mixer.  I just used my biceps and got in a good work out so I could drink eggnog later. Boom!

Coconut oil does (clap) not (clap) play! I love this stuff.  I took a little off the scooper I was using and put it in my hair to help with the cold air drying it out.  It’s so silky and smoothe.

Duck face not required but highly encouraged to help the hair sparkle and shine!

A note on servings before I begin.  I used these cute very little (but mighty) jars that you can find here on Amazon.  I found that if you stick to the traditional recipe of about a cup of sugar in total, 3 jars will be filled to the top.  If you double it, AKA two cups of sugar, you’re looking at 5 jars.  That was the BIG thing that I couldn’t find in the other blogs. Maybe they were there, but I might have saw something shiny and forgot about it. So I am putting this paragraph in bold just in case you’re like me and get blog reading A.D.D.

This post is very repetitive with the instructions, so if you want to make all three at the same time like I did, you will start to get a feel for it really quick and can skip over them. They’re easy to make all together since the oils I used came in the same set.  But if you’re taking it one recipe at a time, I wanted to keep everything together so you didn’t have to go hunting.

Gingerbread Scrub Recipe

The main thing to remember is the parts.  Use this more like a template than an actual recipe.  If you don’t need to make too much, I suggest 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup coconut oil.  Just make sure they’re even parts.  Want it a little more scrubby? Add sugar.  Want a little more oily/smoothe? Add more coconut oil that just melts as you work it.

sugar2

  • One part light brown sugar (1/2 cup or 1 cup)
  • One part granulated sugar (1/2 cup or 1 cup)
  • One part coconut oil (1/2 cup or 1 cup)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extra (or 2 tsp. if you’re doubling the recipe)
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • A couple drops gingerbread fragrance oil

Mix the sugar and coconut oil with a whisk or hard spoon until blended.  So it looks like this.

  • One part light brown sugar
  • One part granulated sugar (it’s not pictured but I added it because the original recipe was a little softer than I wanted)
  • One part coconut oil
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • A couple drops apple cider oil

Mix the sugar and coconut oil with a whisk or hard spoon until blended.  So it looks like this.

Out of all of these, the pumpkin pie is my favorite.  These could make some really nice client gifts as well for my buyers and sellers. Hmmmm….
